It has plastic square holders at the bottom of the plate so I bought a pkg.

I also checked the front license plate and found it was just slipped into the holder and could be removed by simply pulling up on the plate. I'm sure they would want to charge me for this too, especially since I bought it used and from another dealer. and they said they usually drill out the old nut, but didn't seem sure about the size of the original bolts. I would think that the nut in the holder on the door must be metal to make the bolt start to strip? Would an HSS tap work to fix the threads on the door without needing to remove the interior cover? By interior cover you do mean the inside paneling on the rear door, right? Was it hard to remove the cover? I called one of the local Honda dealers service dept. I turned it a little tighter and the threads on it started to strip. I tried a new m6 on the right side and it would only go in less than half way and then it stopped.

I screwed in the new m6 bolt on the left side and it fit alright. I went to Pep Boys and bought a package of m6-1 bolts.

The right side was only in less than half way and the screw was a different size and the threads were coarser.

The pro thieves will take them off one way or another. I bought the tamper proof kind with a special key that discourages the 'honest' thieves. So that they are all the same sizeįor about $4 you can get a new set of four stainless steel screws at PepBoys and AutoZone. If so I would tap them with a really sharp HSS tap to M6-1 or oversize them to 1/4-20. Or is it a plastic square insert nut like it is on the '07 and up that you screw into? Rear license plates that have not been removed for a long time often seize from corrosion of the screw or the welded nut. You might be using the wrong screw hence the question? Or it could be corroded.

What ever you do, take it easy and do not force it. If it was striped some one might have tapped it to 1/4-20 (course) or 1/4-28 (fine) English sizes. It started spinning so I ended up removing the interior cover to replace the plastic square insert nut. It seized up on the plastic square insert nut when I tried to remove the temporary plates. I found out my dealer used 1/4-20 screws. A lot of the smaller screws on imported cars are this size. The rear should be M6-1 pitch from the factory.
